POPULAR local rockers Protobaby beat off some impressive competition to win the West & Mid-West finals of the Guinness Arthur’s Day – Play on The Day competition last Friday night in Dolan’s.

The rocking quartet - Colm McGuinness, Tony Monahan, Aidan Graham and Bryan Ronan - pipped Animal Beats, Paddy Dennehy & The Red Herring and Strange Boats to take the regional winners’ prize package - an impressive haul - and now go on to to battle it out in Whelan’s in Dublin at the National Final on November 21.

A single release and thousands of euro of equipment are up for grabs for the eventual winner.

Protobaby, who are in the midst of a UK and Irish tour in support of the Frank and Walters, have already won a 2FM in-studio session and Hot Press coverage. They released the excellent debut album ‘The Spark’ in March of this year.
