MUCH loved local entertainer Pat Shortt gave an invited audience a sneak peek at his brand new stand-up show recently.
Shortt previewed I Am The Band in front of a handpicked audience at his Shortt Comedy studios in Eastway Business Park last week.
Audience members reported that it was Shortt’s “funniest show yet” and features his famous character, showband singer Dixie, who looks back with sentimentality and much mirth on a twenty two and a half year career in showbusiness.
“Dixie sings his greatest hits at a surprise party thrown by his friends to celebrate the occasion,” explained Pat’s brother Tom, local councillor and teacher.
In the audience were members of St. Munchin’s Church Choir, Mavis Murray, Geraldine Wallace, Dorris Williams and Breda Finn, whose son Mike has collaborated extensively with Pat on his television work Killinaskully and Mattie.
Shortt is also back in action his long-time comedic partner John Kenny as the D’Unbelievables. While the duo reformed last year after a ten year gap, they were forced to cancel several shows when Kenny underwent bypass surgery in November.
Happily they are back performing and are touring One Hell of Show, which appears in Cork this weekend.
Pat Shortt’s solo show, I Am The Band, will tour venues later this year, including Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock, in June. See www.friarsgate.ie for more.
