LIMERICK Craft Hub and Limerick 2020 has announced a community celebration of the first anniversary of the Royal De Luxe Granny visit to Limerick as part of Limerick’s City of Culture celebrations.
A community knit-in will take place over the weekend of September 4-5 to celebrate the ‘giant’ occasion.
The public are being encouraged to knit at home or in their community group or school and bring or send the knitted squares to the Craft Hub for the Granniversary.
The squares sent to the Limerick Craft Hub along with those made on Granniversary weekend will be sewn together by members of the Community Craft Corner and turned into blankets and scarves for various local charities.
“We are welcoming local communities in Limerick City and County to knit with us again for charities in the month of August and come along to special workshops at the Craft Hub on Granniversary, September and 5. The workshops are open to all ages and no prior knitting experience required,” explained Clare Jordan, manager of the Limerick Craft Hub.
Last year the Hub facilitated the greater Limerick community in knitting a giant scarf as a gift for Granny.
