LIMERICK MAYOR Councillor Kathleen Leddin lined out with former Munster Rugby player David Wallace and models from Hilary Thompson agency to officially launch Fashion with Heart at City Hall this week.
The event, to be held at the Strand Hotel on Thursday April 3 at 8pm will consist of a display of the latest fashions and quality musical entertainment from some of Limerick’s leading talents, all in aid of St Mary’s Park flood victims.
At the launch Hilary hinted at a few surprise models that will strut the catwalk:“We have some politicians, rugby players and some of our models are coming out of retirement to make a special appearance.” She added that former Munster and Ireland player Peter Clohessy “has confirmed” he will walk down the catwalk.
“We couldn’t have come this far without all the help we have received and our plan is to raise well over €4,000 from ticket sales with even more coming in from the raffle and private donations.” She said that just before the launch, two individuals who can’t make the event due to professional commitments had donated €50 each to the fund.
Local designers Marie-Louise Reynolds and Caroline Mitchell will be launching each of their 2014 Spring/Summer designs on the night and this is along with the latest designs available in local outlets such as; Gretta Gibbs, En Vogue and Virginia’s.
Limerick You’re a Lady’s Denis Allen, renowned tenor Derek Moloney, Harpist Madeleine Meehan and singer/songwriter Lou McMahon are lending their talents free of charge for the event.
General manager at St Mary’s Aid Gerry Garvey said: “There’s a great night of entertainment lined up and all for a tenner. It’s a perfect night out to help a great cause.”
David Wallace said: “This is an absolutely brilliant cause for the people of Limerick to get behind. Lots of people have been affected and many of those didn’t have insurance.” The Mayor acknowledged “the community spirit behind this initiative”.
Motivated by tales of people in St Mary’s Park without home insurance and how devastating it was for someone’s home to be flooded, Hilary decided that she was in a position to help out.
Tickets are priced at €10 and are available from Hilary Thompson Model Agency, Limerick City Community Radio’s Mary Honan, and from Ger Sheehan at Lu Lu’s on Catherine Street. Any local businesses willing to get involved or to sell tickets can contact King’s Island Community Centre at 061 419 578.
