Dublin wrestling company Over the Top - which includes in its ranks Thomondgate man Dean Craig - is bringing the entertainment to the city this Friday.

Named ‘F**k Pig’, the event - which is certified for over 18s only - kicks off at 8.15pm in the Dock Road venue this Friday night.

Former Ard Scoil Ris student Dean, who followed his schoolboy dream to become a wrestler himself, says people who enjoyed the original World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) shows in the 1990s will enjoy the F**k Pig.

“It is a mix of comedy and wrestling. We base ourselves around the late 1990s version of WWE. The time of Stone Cold Steve Austin,” he explained.

Dean - whose stage name is Jumping Jake O’Brien believes WWE today is geared too much towards children, with little for older people to enjoy.

“We base ourselves towards the over 18s, who really love wrestling, but there is nothing really out there for them any more,” he said.

One of the sketches the audience will see on Friday night includes a ‘father versus son’ battle for power.

Special guest performers at the show include the aforementioned Jigsaw, plus fellow well known wrestlers Pete Dunne and Ryan Smilie.

“These three lads are unlike anything you have ever seen before in the ring. They are what wrestling should be like,” Dean enthuses.

Normally, Over the Top wrestling perform to crowds of around 500 people in Dublin’s Tivoli Theatre.

It is the first time they have ventured to Limerick, with a wrestling show on Shannonside a particular aim of Dean, who made his bow in the ring back in March.

He said: “This is something I have always wanted to do, so I am delighted I finally get to do this.”

Asked what Limerick people can expect, Dean said: “The best thing I would say is to go in with no expectation, and you will leave a massive wrestling fan. There has not been anybody who has been to these shows that has not enjoyed it - it just drags you in.”

Tickets for the event cost €12, and are available from 061-314483, or at www.dolans.ie
