IT'S back! The Limerick Leader Women's Mini-Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 3, in the beautiful surroundings of the University of Limerick campus.
It is time for the women of Limerick and beyond to get active, get fit and kick start their training in advance of the race, which is open to walkers, joggers and runners.
Organiser Edel O'Shea from Limerick Athletic Club is excited about this year's event.
"We're absolutely thrilled that the Limerick Leader Women's Mini-Marathon is taking place again this year. It's a wonderful follow-up to the Great Limerick Run, which was a great event locally, and now this race is another goal for people to aim towards.
"It's great for Limerick, great for Limerick women – it's their chance to get fit and healthy," she said. "We are particularly delighted that the Limerick Leader has come on board again this year. Since the local media have supported the race we have noticed the numbers going up. This is the beauty of staying local."
It also provides people with an opportunity to raise money for the charity of their choice by taking part in the event.
The entry fee for the mini-marathon is j15 and entries will be taken online; more details will follow in the Limerick Leader in the coming weeks.
The entry fee goes towards the organisation of the race with any money left over funding young people involved in athletics locally.
There are Meet & Train sessions taking place across Limerick to encourage people to get fit and prepare for the mini-marathon.
Men and women of all abilities are invited to join groups jogging and running in Shelbourne Park on Mondays at 6pm, and the Fit4Life group, which meets outside the Ambassador Dry Cleaners in Raheen, on Fridays at 6pm.
