AN art auction which is being organised by the Limerick School of Art and Design on behalf of the Shane Geoghegan Trust has generated a lot of interest among prominent Limerick artists who have donated pieces for the event next month.
The day after a letter was sent to artists by LSAD lecturer Des MacMahon requesting art for the auction, local artists John Collins and Samuel Walsh presented pieces to the college.

"I received three pieces from prominent Limerick artists the next day," Mr MacMahon told the Limerick Leader. "It has generated a lot of interest. People are rowing in behind it."

The Shane Geoghegan Trust was launched by former Ireland soccer star Niall Quinn, CEO, Sunderland FC, last month at Garryowen Rugby Club where Shane was an active member and captained the club's thirds.

This initiative is a positive response by family and friends to his murder last November.

LSAD, which is part of LIT where Shane was a former student, is fundraising for the trust by holding a fine art raffle and art auction on Wednesday December 9, from 6pm to 9pm in The Church Gallery, Limerick School of Art and Design, Clare Street.
