Heroic efforts by a Limerick Garda sergeant to save the life of his good friend failed tragically yesterday.

Garda Sgt Jim Madden valiantly tried for over 20 minutes to revive 46-year-old Dave Ryan, who collapses while playing golf at the new Adare Manor Golf hotel course.

Grown men were in tears as they watched the tragedy unfold yesterday afternoon.

It was supposed to be the best day of the year for Myles Breens Golf Society, their captain’s prize outing.

“It was such a tragedy were are all just devastated and our thoughts are with Ursula and their two children,” said Pat Barriscale, captain of the society. Dave Ryan was playing the par 5 on the 12th hole when he took ill and collapsed. Dave lived in Ardnacrusha and had a successful industrial cleaning firm.
