Forty year memories - City Council plans to meet tenants
LIMERICK Corporation could arrange an official meeting with representatives of the Limerick tenants within a week, the City Manager has declared.
“Within the last few days, the tenants have written asking for a meeting with the Corporation officials,” said the Manager TP Mae Diarmadia.
“And we have written back saying that we would.”
He told the City Council: “I do think that anything useful could be added until we have a meeting.”
He emphasised in reply to questions from the Mayor Alderman Michael Lipper, and Alderman Pat Kennedy, that “this was the first indication that they were going to meet us.”
He explained: “Since the Council last met, we asked for meetings, and that has been conveyed several times.”
Deputy Steve Coughlan prompted the debate when he asked: “What provision are we making for the purchase of houses, older houses , by tenants in Corporation houses?
“Can we give them anything by way of grants, or loans for purchase?” said Mr Coughlan.
