A NEW promotional DVD aiming to ‘showcase Limerick life’ will be unveiled in the city next Tuesday.

‘That’s Limerick’, a new marketing video created by the Limerick Communications Office, will get an official launch in the Savoy Hotel on Tuesday night.

However, the Limerick Leader has seen a sneak preview of the impressive ten minute feature, which is the brainchild of Limerick Communications Executive Laura Ryan and was produced locally by Matt Kelly Productions.

The short film showcases the best of the region, with footage of a wide variety of local sights set against a soundtrack that includes local bands Windings, Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters and Size2Shoes.

A brief voiceover declares Limerick to be the “perfect destination for your stopover, business trip, family outing, fun weekend break” providing “total relaxation” for the visitor.

Ms Ryan, a former journalist with TV3, said that she felt there was a “need” for such a video.

“I am not saying it is a definitive guide to Limerick because it isn’t, it is more like a promotional tool, a snapshot of Limerick life,” said Ms Ryan.

“I wanted to portray Limerick as a fun, buzzy place and there is no distinction between city and county. It is an upbeat snapshot of Limerick.”

Local personalities such as Paul O’Connell, Celia Holman Lee and composer Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, all have their say on the strengths of the region and its attractiveness to outsiders.

“I wanted something a little bit different that didn’t have a big voice over and that would allow Limerick people to tell the story and showcase the city through their own words,” noted Ms Ryan.

It is hoped that local hotels, third level institutions, businesses and tourist centres will all use the video to promote the city. It will be available to view on www.limerick.ie from next Tuesday.
