MUNSTER players will soon be put through their paces in Thomond Park by Michelin star chef Derry Clarke from l’Ecrivain restaurant in Dublin.

The renowned cook will be a special guest at the Savour Limerick Food Festival, which aims to showcase the region’s culinary strengths as well as raising much needed funds for CARI Limerick.

The organisers of the March 15 event, which is to take place in the iconic stadium, hope to persuade some of Munster’s top players to show off their cooking skills, as well as giving an insight into their diets and exercise regime.

The l’Ecrivain chef will host a cooking demonstration while the participating restaurants will be providing tasting samples from their menus and local food and wine producers will also be in attendance.

The event is being organised by students in LIT’s event management course along with Pat O’Sullivan of Masterchefs Hospitality.

“The purpose of the event is to promote the region and the culinary aspects of the region,” said Mr O’Sullivan.

“We have some fantastic restaurants, chefs and food producers here and we want showcase that. There will be a number of stands set-up and seminars taking place and quite a few of the players around, so hopefully we will get one or two of them on the podium as well for a bit of light entertainment,” he added.

Padraic Frawley of Cornstore and the Restaurants Association of Ireland said the event would be “like a mini-taste of Limerick”.

“All of this helps raise the foodie profile of Limerick, which is something we have been on a mission to do now for some time,” he explained.

Tickets are on sale now from Thomond Park.
