Pop-up craft shop has opened on Catherine Street in Limerick city

A CRAFTY pair of designers are behind a shop that has popped up on Catherine Street.

Limerick women, Ruth Crean and Rebecca O’Hare, opened the crafty pop-up shop at Bourke’s Bar as part of the Catherine Street Cultural Dig a number of weeks ago, and they were so pleased with the interest in the handmade crafts on sale at the premises that they approached the bar owners to see if they would be allowed to keep the shop open for another week.

The bar owners generously allowed the pair, who both graduated from the Limerick School of Art and Design, to keep the pop-up shop open for another month.

The shabby-chic shop is a haven of all things handmade by dedicated Irish crafters, five of whom are from Limerick. Ruth designs broaches and buttons, and her stall is a permanent fixture at Limerick’s Milk Market. Rebecca sells her handmade cards and invitations on her website luckyrainbowdesign.com. She started out making cards for a friend’s wedding and her passion for crafts turned into a profit making venture from there.

Rebecca is thrilled the pop-up shop phenomenon has taken off in Limerick city. “All the work that is on display is all handmade, it is all made by Irish crafters and the work comes from all around the country. Everybody who works in the shop does so on a voluntary basis, so it’s for the love of all things craft.”

This weekend marks the last weekend of the crafty pop-up shop at Bourke’s Bar, but the women hope to open again before Christmas. Their handmade crafts are available for sale on www.etsy.com.
