‘LOVE Bites’ is the aptly named new night for singles seeking the possibility of love as Valentine’s Day approaches next week.

Food writer Valerie O’Connor has teamed up with chef Noel Keane at the new Black Fig bistro in the city to present a night of food for 60 single people, who will get to enjoy a five course meal in the new bistro on O’Connell Street.

“This Valentine’s, people will wish they were single so they can enjoy one of the hottest and tastiest nights in the city,” said Ms O’Connor, a contributor to the Bridgestone Guide.

Tickets will be available for the evening on Thursday, February 16 to equal numbers of single men and women. After the first course the men will be asked to move along to the next table, so they they can chat to a new group of ladies.

The food will be a tasting menu featuring local produce, so each course should take no more than twenty minutes and diners will get to meet as many people as possible.

It is planned to hold a series of ‘Love Bites’ nights to avail of great restaurant deals mid-week.

“With keenly priced packages, and working with different restaurants for each event, Love Bites plans to get people back into eating out mid-week,” she said.

The online dating scene or meeting someone in a busy bar or nightclub isn’t for anyone, she added.

“While both of these are fine, you can’t beat the fun of sharing a meal across a table and chatting to new friends. The nights are fun, informal and you can come as an individual or in a group of friends.

“My plan is to set up a club online and let people know about events, as well as dinners we will have cooking classes, farm walks and foraging. It’s foodie heaven. Limerick has a fantastic food culture, it’s something we need to support as a community to ensure that we have a variety of great places to eat,” she said.

Tickets are priced at €30, and can be purchased in advance only from the restaurant.
