Limerick’s Leanne back for third tilt at Eurovision glory
SHE’s becoming Limerick’s answer to Johnny Logan and could be bound for a third straight Eurovision performance if votes fall her way.
Limerick’s Leanne Moore is singing backing vocals on Ryan Dolan’s Eurosong entry on the Late Late Show this Friday night, and if the song is successful, will be bound for Malmö, Sweden, in May.
“This is it, it is my annual holiday,” she laughed. “I have never been to Sweden! I keep saying third time lucky, it would be amazing, I would be nearly equalling Johnny Logan at this stage - I am totally kidding! It is good fun.”
Invited back by choreographer Stuart O’Connor who devised Jedward’s performance of Waterline at last years’ Eurovision - of which Leanne was a backing singer in Baku, and also in Dusseldorf in 2011 - the Corbally singer was originally supposed to perform her own song in the Eurosong process, but was committed to a season run of Cinderella in the UCH at that stage.
Instead she is singing on Dolan’s own composition, described as “a modern song with an Irish vibe that will appeal to audiences across Europe.”
“It is modern because it is dancey, it has got that euphoria thing going on, and with Nick Bailey, who was in Riverdance, adding the drums it has that Irish edge, which I think you need, it has to have some flavour of the country it is coming from,” said Leanne, who has high hopes for the song.
“I feel that if it was the one to go to Eurovision, I think it would do exceptionally well over there,” she explained.
The You’re A Star says Dolan’s voice is “amazing” and hopes people will vote for the act on Friday.
“Hopefully people will get behind it and no doubt my sister will have an army of people texting in,” she laughed.
“I feel like my whole life has been asking people to vote for me!”
