Limerick’s Parliament Square launch new single

THURSDAY sees exciting new Limerick band Parliament Square mark the release of their new single Forest Fire with a gig in Cobblestone Joe’s in the city.
The band, made up of ex-Driven frontman and top songwriter Brendan Markham - whose solo album from a few years back was one of our favourite Irish releases in recent memory - ex-Walter Mitty bassist Colin Bartley, Karol Drea and Ross Brennan.
The band, who have been working together in studio for the bones of 12 months, dubbed themselves Parliament Square after a JP O’Brien horse of the same name whom Markham and Brennan gambled their “last €10” - so the legend goes - and the winnings from which paid for the band’s recording time.
On a serious note, the quartet hope to have their debut album released some time next year and say they have already had a lot of interest in the as yet unreleased material.
“The new stuff is a bit synthy,” says bassist Bartley. “It took me a while to warm up to it, but we have been getting a great response to it,” he laughs.
“Hopefully we will have the album out next year, shortly before the summer and we are heading back into studio soon to finish work on it,” he adds.
Forest Fire is a great first taster of things to come from the band, boasting Markahm’s lyrical songwriting skills layered over a thumping beat.
A free copy of the single will be available for those who turn up early to the gig in Cobbelstone’s this Thursday, while a video screening for the new single will take place before the gig on a big screen. Admission is free.
