Limerick author celebrates success

A Limerick woman was one of 50 authors whose short stories were chosen to appear in Celebrating What Truly Matters, Powers Irish Whiskey Short Story Collection, with all proceeds raised from the sale of the book going to the Irish Hospice Foundation.
Brenda Frawley from Corbally, was one of 50 other authors who had their short story published, from an entry of over 4,000 in the competition in May last year.
Her story, The Nest, focuses on the story of a nest of five eggs found by a brother and sister and their fate when the boy tells his news in school.
The book also garnered the attention of Irish authors Sheila O’Flanagan who acted as ambassador to the project and the late Maeve Binchy who also wrote a foreword for the book.
All aspects of the book’s production and distribution were funded by Powers Whiskey and all proceeds will go to the Irish Hospice Foundation in support of a range of programmes including the development of bereavement services, supporting hospice services and developing palliative care in the community.
Chairman of the Irish Hospice Foundation Michael O’Reilly said: “As a charity with no core funding from the State, we are reliant on public goodwill to fund our work. Last year we were very grateful to receive nearly €30,000 from the sales of Celebrating What Truly Matters Volume One.
“We stand to benefit again from Volume Two. The funds raised will be used to support a range of programmes that strive to ensure that everyone, regardless of their age, their diagnosis or where they live, have access to the care and support they need when they need it most,” said Mr O’Reilly.
“A core feature of hospice care is good communication and listening to people. This book is a wonderful collection of people’s stories about their life experiences and will bring a lot of enjoyment to the reader,” he added.
