JP MCMANUS will travel to his favourite stomping ground, Cheltenham, with an extra spring in his step next week after celebrating the birth of his first grandson.

JP’s only daughter, Sue Ann Foley, gave birth to a baby boy last week – a brother for one-year-old Cara.

It is understood that the baby boy – who was born on Tuesday of last week at a hospital in Ireland – has been named CJ.

All eyes will be on the Limerick horse owner next week when the famous Cheltenham Festival begins.

JP enjoyed one of his best days in racing history at the racing venue last year when his horse, Synchronised, romped to victory in the Gold Cup.

He will be hoping for more of the same this year as he owns some of the major fancies for the top class races of the four day meeting including Supreme Novices favourite, My Tent or Yours, Binocular in the Champion Hurdle, and At Fisher’s Cross, which holds entries in both the Neptune Investment Management Novices Hurdle over 2m 5f and in the Albert Bartlett Novices hurdle over three miles.

The Limerickman is well-known for celebrating his big wins with a big party for his local parish in Martinstown, and with a new arrival in the family, there is sure to be extra champagne cracked open this year.

Sue Ann and her husband, Killorglin man Cian Foley, were the centre of attention in the summer of 2007 when they exchanged vows at Martinstown Church outside Kilmallock.

Following an intimate wedding ceremony the newly-weds joined in the region of 1,500 guests including family and friends at a specially erected marquee on the grounds of the McManus family home, Martinstown Stud.

Superstar singers Billy Joel and Lionel Richie entertained guests including actor Clive Owen and singer Andrea Corr and her husband Brett Desmond.

In 2009, Sue Ann and Cian purchased the exclusive 400-acre Islanmore Stud near Croom. The fine Georgian house which is set off with three acres of mown lawn, many mature specimen trees and exquisite gardens is believed to have been chosen by the couple because it offers enhanced security.
