The only Premier League game to survive the weekend weather saw Aisling move into the top half of the table with a 2-0 win over relegation threatened Moyross Utd.

After a poor opening month of the season, culminating in an FAI Junior Cup defeat to Hyde Rgs, Aisling have shown a huge improvement since. Since the Hyde game they have played five, winning four and losing the other narrowly to Janesboro.

They deserved their win on Sunday although manager Mike McCarthy must be frustrated with the number of chances his charges wasted before wrapping up the points.

On most days failure to put away so many gilt edged chances and you would pay dearly.

Moyross' lack of confidence was evident throughout as you expect of a side trying to claw their way away from the drop zone.

Their squad are a brave bunch of lads who fight gamely for every ball. It was the same on Sunday. They matched their opponents for effort but Aisling had a number of players who made the difference.

Sosuke Kimura continues to win the accolades, and has that ingredient that makes him stand out.

Alongside him veteran Chimka Manjor also caught the eye as did Colm Murphy and Barry Hootan.

Despite the result Moyross had fine performers in Pat McCallig, Mike O'Donoghue, James McNamara and James Cleary after his introduction.

The home side took 15 minutes to break the deadlock when Jason Lipper headed in from Sosuke Kimura's corner kick.

The lively Lipper could have doubled the advantage minutes later when he raced onto Patrick Stanisewski's through ball but fired into the side netting.

Aisling were celebrating a second on the half hour mark but it proved premature when Hootan's long throw was flicked on by Collins and Kimura's shot forced a superb save from Mike O'Donoghue. Collins followed up to tuck away the rebound but was adjudged offside.

Following a rare Moyross attack on the Aisling goal, a quick breakaway saw the tricky Kimura sway left and right before teeing up Byron Fitzgerald but he blazed the opening over from 15 yards.

After the break Aisling continued to press and Kimura delivered a free kick into the area where Collins was denied by a McNamara interception.

Minutes later a long throw by Hootan caused pandemonium in the box with three Aisling players unable to provide a finish.

Evan O'Connor was employed as  a strike for the second half and his pace was having a telling effect.

He was within a whisker of getting the final touch on Fitzgerald's pass and seconds later another ball across the face by Butler was inches too far away.

Kimura had the ball in the net from a Butler through ball but the Referee correctly call offside and the home side were denied again when offside ruled out another effort from Evan O'Connor.

Graham Power was denied the crucial second by a tip over from O'Donoghue but the keeper could do little when the score eventually came.

Good running by O'Connor on the right stretched the defence and he delivered a ball into Kimura who steadied himself before firing in his tenth of the season.

Munster Junior Cup

Charleville 1 - 3 Pike Rovers

Pike Rvs beat Charleville at the Co Cork venue on Saturday evening to set up the much anticipated clash with Carew Park in Round four of the Munster Junior Cup.

After accounting for Regional in an earlier round Charleville were hoping they could eke out another surprise result but found Pike in fine form as the game went to script.

Pike took the lead when the home side failed to deal with a Paddy O'Malley corner kick and Steven McGann right footed the ball to the back of the net.

The same pair reversed roles for the second goal. McGann's shot from outside the box struck the post and O'Malley reacted quickest to tap in the rebound.

It was game over when Steven McGann's superb chip over the home defence put Dave Ryan in on goal and the veteran striker, confidence oozing and three goals in his previous two games, proceeded top round the keeper to score.

To their credit Charleville never threw in the towel and put in a much better second half performance.

They pulled one back with a fine team effort culminating with Shane Dillon putting Gary Ward through to score.

That's as much as Pike were to conceded as they held on to progress to the last 32 of the competition.

Limerick's seven remaining hopefuls were drawn as follows; Murroe v Grattan Utd or Dunbar Celtic (Cork AUL), Fairview Rgs v Stradbally or Carrick Utd “B” Waterford), St John Bosco (Cork AUL) v Hill Celtic, Tralee Dynamos or CG Killarney v Janesboro, Newmarket Celtic A v Cappamore Celtic, Carew Park v Pike Rvs

Charleville: Jesse Smith; Ken O'Donoghue; Darren Butler; Jeremy Bridgeman; Ciaran Carey; Kieran O'Donoghue; Shane Corkery; Mark Kavanagh; Gary Ward; Shane Dillon; Pat O'Callaghan. Subs: Aaron O'Connor; Michael Thompson

FAI Youth Cup

Pike Rvs 2 Avenue 0 (aet)

Pike struck twice in the second period of extra time with goals from Adam Lipper and Cian Power to finally see off the challenge of a fully committed Avenue side and advanced to an away meeting with Athenry in the next round of the FAI Youth Cup. It was a hard fought affair all through with the Limerick lads showing just a little more guile to see their way through.

Pike took the lead when a perfectly delivered corner by Cian Power saw Adam Lipper send a bullet like header to the back of the net.

With the visitors reeling Pike struck again this time Lipper supplied the ammo from a free kick which deflected off the wall and fell to Power to put it past the keeper.

Pike Rvs; Adam O'Doherty, Sean Reeves, Adam Lipper, Evan Hudner, Barry Coleman, Ethan Butler, Ben Doherty, TJ O'Dwyer, Kyle Duhig, Bryan Thompson, Cian Power, subs, Callum Walters, Jason Keane, Oliver Plunkett

In the Div 1A O'Halloran Cup on Wednesday evening a Robert McLoughlin goal gave high riding Cappamore a win over Castle Rvs to progress.

Division 1B leaders Coonagh were brought back to earthy on Saturday evening when they fell 2-1 to Regional Utd in Dooradoyle. Jeff Mannion put Regional in front. Joey Sheehan levelled but Kyle Cotter struck to give the Bees the win.

Goals from Oran Brett, Brian O'Sullivan, Kevin Connolly and Sean Ryan gave Newport the spoils at home to St Pats for whom Darragh Phillips scored.

A cracking tie in Division 2B saw Holycross come back from being 3-1 down on the hour mark to take all three points. A hat trick from Calem Harte had Newport in control but goals from Dara Glynn (2), AJ Moloney (2) and James Kelleher stopped the Tipperary side taking over top spot.

In Division 4 Coonagh open up an eight point lead following a six goal win over Dromore Celtic. Billy Connors scored twice, Ger Myles, Cormac McDonnell and the evergreen Aidan Ryan and Ray McMahon also getting on the score sheet.

Mike O'Brien scored for Parkville in a 1-1 draw with Athlunkard Villa C while an Adam Deegan double saw Aisling E to the points at home to Mungret Reg C.

In the Balon Sport Under 17 Div Two League Charleville opened up a nine point gap on the chasing pack with a 2-1 win at Newport. Colin Coleman scored for the home side but goals from Jorge Gustavo and Cian McNamara won the points.
