FRIENDS and relatives of a Limerick man who died from a rare kidney disease are to hold a charity golf tournament in his memory next month.

Brian Hunt, a native of Raheen, was just 26-years-old when he passed away suddenly last May having spent most of his life battling the condition MPGN.

On Friday March 30 the inaugural Brian Hunt Memorial golf tournament will take place at Rathbane golf club, with proceeds from the ‘scramble’ event going to the Irish Kidney Association.

Brian’s friend Jonathan McDonnell, chairman of the organising committee, said that Brian as an avid soccer and rugby fan, but had taken up golf just before his death.

“It’s a celebration of his life. That’s what it’s all about” John said at the launch of the event at Brian’s old work place, Certus, in Limerick this Monday.

Brian’s father, Gabriel, is a native of Newcastle West while his mother, Loretta, hails from Clare Street in the city. His younger brother, Cian, Cian’s girlfriend Stephanie McDonnell, and several of Brian’s old friends and co-workers are already involved in putting together the event, which will culminate with a prize-giving reception at Patrick Punch’s hotel.

“He fit so much into his short life. It was amazing”, said Loretta. “It was at his funeral service that I learned so much more about Brian through his friends and his work colleagues.”

To enter the competition or sponsor a hole, log on to the event’s Facebook page, e-mail bhmemorial@gmail.com, or call John on 085 7242663.

Brian Hunt Memorial

Thank you for your comment Dyanisis. As the Chairman of the Brian Hunt Memorial Committee and Brian's best friend, I must disagree with your view about the venue and character of the players. Rathbane have been amazing to deal with in the lead up to this event. As Brian joined Rathbane a week before his death to take up golf we thought it fitting to host the event in his club. The players will all have a connection with Brian, his family, friends andor colleagues and I can assure you that they will be there with only the best of intentions namely to have fun celebrating a wonderful man whilst raising money. Maybe you yourself would like to take part in the event? It is in aid of the Irish Kidney Association as you read above and as you so well put it... 'A super worth while cause'. Look forward to hearing from you, Jonathan McDonnell

A super worth while cause, but having a golf tournament and especially at rathbane, will sully this mans good name, as these competitions only bring out the scum cheaters and especially at rathbane, who are well known for cheating..............and record scores will be brough tin for this............wait and see
