EMIGRANTS returning to Limerick for Christmas have been enjoying the festive spirit as soon as they enter the arrivals hall in Shannon - thanks to the efforts of carol-singing children.

Choirs from Limerick and Clare will continue their musical season’s greetings right up to this Christmas Eve.

“Having the carol singers here really adds to the festive spirit at the airport and passengers really get a lift from it when they arrive and, indeed, depart,” said Shannon’s director of operations, Niall Maloney.

“The airport really showcases just how special the Christmas period is, not least for people returning home. There are a lot of smiles and a few tears as well as passengers are greeted by family and friends and that’s what Christmas is all about, getting friends and family together. The airport is delighted to play a key role in that and our carol singers add to the mood.”

Among those taking part have been the Limerick-based Mid West Spina Bifida Association and children’s choirs from Bodyke and St Senan’s National School in Shannon Town.

This Christmas Eve, passengers will be treated to carols from the professionals in the Christmas Hollies, a group of former Bunratty singers who reunite each year.
