The annual Christmas Remembrance Tree at the junction of Bedford Row and O’Connell Street on Limerick’s main thoroughfare was unveiled at the weekend.

Limerick Thomond Rotary Club are giving the public the opportunity to be involved in the project by writing the name of the person they wish to be remembered on a ribbon, which will be put on the Remembrance Tree.

The tree will become a sea of yellow with people invited daily - until December 21 - to fix ribbons to its branches. It is expected that during this period over 10,000 names will be remembered on the tree.

Eamonn Flynn, president of Limerick Thomond Rotary Club said: “CARI Limerick, Dochas-support for Autism, Down Syndrome Limerick and Headway Limerick will all benefit from the proceeds.”

A special Mass will be held in the Augustinian Church, O’Connell Street, on Saturday December 22 at 3pm for all that are remembered on the tree and the public are invited to attend.
