The Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Limerick Regional Hospital was awarded €10,000 as it was named the overall winner of the EBS National Community Fund competition.

The PHDU received the majority of the 30,000 votes cast by the public in the nationwide competition and beat off strong competition from organisations representing other counties from across Ireland.

The EBS Community Fund, which is now in its fifth year, provides support to projects that benefit local communities throughout Ireland.

After being initially selected by their local EBS office in Crescent Shopping Centre, the Paediatric High Dependency Unit at Limerick Regional Hospital was then chosen by a panel of independent judges to go forward to represent County Limerick in the national final.

The final round of the competition was decided by a public vote with the cause that received the most votes awarded the overall prize of €10,000 in funding.

Dr Roy Philip, Consultant Paediatrician at Limerick Regional Hospital, commented: “We are delighted to have won the overall prize in the EBS Community Fund. We are proud of the valuable work which we carry out for the critically ill children in the community and we want to continue providing this service to our infants and children closer to home.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who got involved and took the time to go online to vote for us.”
