THREE Limerick stores have been named in a prestigious countdown of top Irish retailers.

McGovern’s Menswear, which recently moved to Bedford Row, joins BB’s Coffee and Muffin shop in the Crescent, and Castletroy butchers Garrett’s in being named in a countdown of the top 100 stores in Ireland, based on cleanliness, offering and service.

Now the three shops are in line to win the overall Retail Excellence Ireland prize at the awards ceremony which takes place on Saturday, November 3.

As part of the selection process, all store entrants were visited by a Mystery Shopper, with those exceeding demanding service and standards criteria making it to the chart.

Now, a team of store assessors will now visit each of the top stores.

They will whittle the top 100 stores down to 50, then 30.

The inspectors will be looking at a variety of things - and will be making recordings of shop workers in action.

David Fitzsimons, chief executive, Retail Excellence Ireland commended the three Limerick stores.

“The very high standard of service, customer engagement, display and levels of investment among Irish retailers made selecting this year’s Top100 particularly difficult. The REI awards are about recognising and rewarding retail excellence”.

The Retail Excellence Ireland Awards, which were set up in 1997, aims to promote best practice standards in the Irish retail industry.

The awards, which recognise Ireland’s best retail stores, companies, people and websites, take place in Galway on November 3, 2012 with President Michael D Higgins in attendance.

This year marks the 15th yanniverdary of the industry awards which bring in more than 600 entries on an annual basis.
