Limerick linen service has ‘fresh’ appeal
A NEW online laundry service - the first of its kind in the region – has been launched in Limerick, providing families with clean, fresh linen without them ever having to set foot outside their house.
The Laundry Shop.ie has started a new online service whereby people can make a booking to have their dirty bedlinen collected from their home before its laundered, pressed and returned to their doorstep.
“Over the last year I was thinking of ways to improve the business and of getting increased footfall into the shop. Then I thought about making it more convenient for people,” explained Donal Hammond who runs The Laundry Shop.ie which is based both in the University of Limerick and in Ballina, County Tipperary.
“We collect it, it is cleaned and it is pressed to hotel standard and it is delivered back again. That is the key selling point that it is pressed to hotel standard,” Donal added.
The company employs five full-time staff as well as part-time workers during the summer and the new venture has already created two new jobs in the area of delivery.
“It has always been a family business and I took it over - I bought my father out about four years ago,” Donal explained.
His parents Trevor and Breada had been in the laundry business since 1981 and previously ran Mr Jeeves opposite the old Dunnes Stores on Sarsfield Street in the city.
The online service is aimed at those in the greater Limerick urban area within a 15km radius of the city and the booking system is open from 7am to 7pm.
“If you live outside that, in for example, Cratloe or Adare, then you just email us and we will see if we can come out,” Donal explained.
“There is a 48-hour waiting time but customers can also request an express service which is faster”.
To coincide with the launch of the new venture – which took place last week – The Laundry Shop.ie showcased their business at a stand in the AIB bank on O’Connell street in the city last week.
“We are getting plenty of interest,” said Donal, “we have kept the prices very competitive.”
Prices range from €20 to have one or two beds of linen laundered and pressed - which includes duvet covers, sheets and pillow cases - up to €35 to have five beds of linen laundered and pressed.
