€6m housing boost for the vulnerable in Limerick city

THE Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan, has announced funding of €6m to deliver 66 housing units for some of the most vulnerable people in the city.
The funding is part of a national programme to deliver 800 units designed, in the main, for the elderly, homeless people and people with a disability.
“I am pleased that Limerick will gain significantly for this initiative. My Department sought submissions from local authorities and voluntary groups throughout the country to assess where funding could be best spent. It is a tribute to the professionalism of both Limerick City Council and voluntary housing associations in Limerick that these proposals got the green light,” said Ms O’Sullivan.”
Houses approved in Limerick will be either be built or delivered by organisations such as Limerick City Council, Novas, Focus Ireland and the Daughters of Charity. They will be located in a number of areas including Moylish, Castletroy and Rathbane.
“The 66 units I am approving will come on stream between now and 2014. The projects are designed, in the main, to address the housing needs of the elderly, people with a disability and people who are currently homeless.
A further €4m his been allocated by the minister for the provision of similar housing in County Limerick.
