Huge crowds pay respects at funeral of Willie O’Dea’s mother
Willie O'Dea with his late mother Maudie (LL)
POLITICIANS from across the political spectrum gathered this week for the funeral Mass of Maudie O’Dea - the mother of Limerick TD Willie O’Dea - who had “a huge heart and a welcome for everybody”.
Maudie, who was in her 90th year, passed away at Beech Lodge Care Facility in Bruree on Sunday.
The vast congregation who lined the pews inside Kilteely Church on Tuesday morning heard how the parish had lost a person who was “kindness, friendship and welcome personified”.
Her popularity within east Limerick was evident from the huge numbers of people - amongst them Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin - who queued at O’Leary’s funeral home in the village of Hospital on Monday night to pay their respects.
