Dell staff recycle 6,000kgs of electronic goods

WORKERS at the Dell facility in Raheen recycled more than 6,000kgs of electronic waste during a recent recycling event at the facility.
The three day recycling drive, which was supported by European Recycling Platform (ERP) Ireland, allowed over 1000 employees who are based in Raheen to recycle old and unwanted electronics that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.
Some of the items collected during the event included computer equipment, washing machines, televisions, fridge freezers, stereos and a variety of general household electronics products.
Tom Moriarty of Dell Ireland, said that it was very encouraging to see such a huge belief in the importance of recycling and support for environmental initiatives being displayed by the staff at the Raheen facility.
“I would like to praise everyone at Dell in Limerick for their consistent efforts and support with recycling and for making this event such a success,” he said.
“Being environmentally sound is part of who we are at Dell and we are committed to ensuring that this is reflected in the programmes and processes that we implement,” he added.
Mr Moriarty said it important to Dell that recycling options are made as simple and accessible as possible, not just for the employees, but also for the public.
“By getting involved in an event of this nature everyone is taking the next step towards a greener Ireland. These events have been enormously successful and we intend to continue this work in 2012.”
A total of 6,034kgs of electrical items were collected during the recent recycling drive.
A number of free public recycling events are held in Limerick every year and electronic items can also be recycled at a number of civic amenity sites across the city and county.
These are located at Park Road, Mungret, Kilmallock and Newcastle West.
