Card Results
In the Convent Hall on November 10, winners were Pa O’Connell and Ita Farrell. Second were John and Tim Foley, Liam and Mary O’Riordan , James Carey and Sadie Moloney. Table prizes went to Ann Murphy and Murty Hayes, Tommy O’Brien and Catherine Winters and Pat and Gerry O’Dea.

Sympathy
Sympathy is extended to the daughters, sons, grandchildren and extended family of Sarah Maher who died peacefully but unexpectedly last week in the home of her daughter Geraldine Sheehy, Ardykeohane. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Joe Foley in St. Cronan’s Church, Roscrea and the burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Bruff Tidy Towns – Table Quiz
Bruff Tidy Towns are holding a Table Quiz in Derry’s Bar on Wednesday, December 2 at 9pm. €20 per team with refreshment included. We will be very grateful for your support by entering a team or making some other contribution. We look forward to seeing you on the night.
Wedding Congratulations
Congratulations to Derek Ryan, son of Sheila and the late Paddy, Sycamore Drive and Fiona Jones, daughter of Mattie and Vera, Kilmallock who were married recently. The Nuptial Mass was in Fossa Church, Killarney, the chief celebrant being Fr. Seamus Tuohy, cousin of the bride and he was assisted by Canon James Costello and Canon Willie Fitzmaurice.
The bridesmaids were Mary Meyer, Kate Mulcahy and Lauren O’Dwyer and the groomsmen Brendan O’Carroll and Mark Ryan. Flower girl and pageboy were Megan and Adam O’Dwyer. Vera and Sheila brought the gifts to the altar. Singers and musicians on the day were Jude Fenton, Fiona Hayes and Pauline O’Mahony. The reception was in the Brehon Hotel and the happy couple have chosen Lanzarotte for their honeymoon. We wish them every blessing.

A fashion show in aid of Sean Garvey Calcutta Project will be held in Scoil Dean Cussen this Thursday, November 19 at 8pm. Tickets €5. Have a great night.

Lecture
Lough Gur Historical Society will host a lecture on Frank Brazill Dineen, Ballylanders. He is the only person to hold the offices of President and Secretary of the GAA. He was responsible for the purchase of Croke Park. The lecture will be given by Nicholas Dineen in the HoneyFitz Theatre on Thursday, November 19 at 8.30pm.
Ard Scoil Mhuire FCJ
Our Debating Team under the guidance of Ms. Coughlan competed in the Regional Debating Competition in Cahir on Tuesday, November 10. Team: Sarah O’Shea, Aisling O’Rourke, Eilis O’Sullivan, Roisin Bogue and Sinead O’Sullivan. Topic was “Is the EU failing Africa”. Eilis O’Sullivan won the award for best individual speaker.
TYR Students have commenced the digital photography course and are currently engaged in enterprise activities such as selling Waffles and Hot Chocolate. They are also producing class calendars that will be on sale shortly.
John Pa Corbett represented our school in the regional finals of the Annual Rotary Club Leadership Competition. Well done John Pa.
Learning Support Christmas outing is fixed for 15th December, details with Ms. Eleanor Lyons.
Preparations are well underway for the Annual Musical “Back to the 80’s” which will be staged in February. FCJ Bruff is noted far-a-field for its musical tradition. Music lessons continue after school in Piano, Guitar and Drums.
TYR Retreat is on November 25. Details from Sr. Geraldine. The first night of the Web 2 course took place last Wednesday evening. Thirteen staff members are participating. This course will enable the teachers to integrate seamlessly ICT into their lessons.
Three teachers Kevin Cusack, Caitriona Meagher and Joe Fitzgerald will attend a Pod Casting training seminar at the Apple Specialists at Lambeth City Learning Centre during December. This is part of our Comenious Project that involves exchanging ICT expertise with five other schools from Spain, Germany, Italy, Latvia and England. FCJ Bruff is the only Irish School participating in this project.
Table Quiz
This will take place on Wednesday, November 25 at 9pm in Derry’s Bar in aid of Bruff Grove. Funds needed to face the bare wall with dressed stone and have it in line with the wall which runs from the Waterfall and around the two bridges. We hope this will give a pleasing appearance to the approach to Bruff from Athlacca. Spot prizes. Please support. All are welcome.
Bereavement Information Evening
Bereavement Information Evening will take place on Tuesday, November 24 from 7-8.30pm in Milford Care Centre, Education Department. These evenings are designed to give general information on grief and bereavement to bereaved people, their families and friends. Bereavement Counsellors are present in case you have specific questions. This information evening is free. Grassroots Films
Grassroots Films are presenting a film titled ‘The Human Experience’ at L.I.T. Millennium Theatre on Saturday and Sunday 21 and November 22 at 19.30. The film features music by Bob Marley, Jimmy Durante and Enya. Admission is free – donations will be accepted.The film has 27 film festival honours, including Best Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival 2009. Sit is being presented by Grassroots Films.
Community Games
Congratulations to our Girls U14 Olympic Handball Team on winning the “C” Category Team Sportsmans Award in Rathkeale at the weekend. Also our congratulations to our U12 Girls Soccer Team who got to the finals in Category “D”. Both teams put in terrific performances through the year and we are very proud of their achievements and look forward to the coming season of Community Games which starts on the first weekend in December with the U15 Indoor Soccer.
